You've clearly broken a cycle of generational abuse by the way you've chosen to raise your children. I've tried to do the same with my mom, the perfectionist, by understanding how she was raised and where that perfectionism (i.e. criticism) came from. In doing so, I've (mostly) been able to forgive her. But I had to work hard not to pass that perfectionism down to my daughter. I wasn't always successful, but she's grown into a mature, confident woman, so I guess I did some things right.
