When my daughter was 5 (she's 42 now), I took her to the pet store (this was before the age of getting pets from animal shelters) to get a cat. The guy showed us a container that had been filled with kittens and only one remained - he was black. I immediately picked it up and said, "We'll take it."

Zanzibar was by far the most amazing cat I've ever had the privilege to call my pet. He's like a spirit guide today, directing kittens to me to be cared for. It's amazing how programmed society is to hate anything black. Thanks for writing this.

Btw, daughter's favorite color from high school forward is black.
