I Survived Covid-19 at 72

And getting it might very well have been a blessing in disguise.

Like many of you, I ducked and dodged Covid all during the pandemic, doing all of the right things — got vaccinated and boosted, masked up, kept my distance, and religiously washed my hands for the full 20 seconds.

And being in the vulnerable “over 60” crowd, I decided to take additional steps to strengthen my immune system (vitamin C) and my lungs (breathing exercises — although the National Institute of Health (NIH) would appear to disagree with me on this one).

Finally, I tried my best to be positive about my health and my body’s innate ability to heal itself as long as I gave it what it needs to stay healthy.

Despite those efforts, Covid caught up with me towards the end of July 2022 as the state began lifting pandemic mandates and restrictions. The high, summer community spread where I live on O’ahu probably didn’t help matters either.

All it took was one mask-less conversation with someone who didn’t know they had been exposed and found out a day later.

Fortunately, it only took a little under two weeks for me to test negative again. And as I regained my health, I began to realize that getting Covid may very well may have been a blessing in disguise.
