Exactly! But don't call it a debacle. It's a learning experience.
This reminds me of the part time job I jumped on a couple of years ago to be a "trimmer" at a cannabis grow facility belonging to one of the medical cannabis dispensaries on the island. I thought I'd be trimming all day, even after reading the job description which included the fact that workers had to be able to lift heavy weights. I either ignored it, idealized what I'd be doing, or figured it wouldn't apply to me. Instead of the "trimmer job" advertised it was "post harvest technician" which involved the entire process of cutting down the harvest, hanging it up to dry, weighting it, chopping it up into manageable pieces, and finally trimming the buds. Needless to say, I lasted two short, part-time weeks. And the site manager was shocked to discover that I was 73 at the time.
Then I signed up last August for a proofreader certification program that I was initially excited about until I actually dove into the training and found it to be woefully lacking. Now I'm trying to decide if its worth the effort to continue.
One of the main ways we learn is to take the bait to discover what works and what doesn't. I believe its called inductive learning where experience is your teacher. Daughter Dearest taught me that when I homeschooled her for two years. She wanted to "just do it" when we were experimenting with kite flying on the National Mall. I wanted to read all the books first. She won, we learned a lot, and even had help from an expert kite flyer whom we almost hit in the head with out kite.
Keep taking that bait!
